Which app and developer this policy covers

This privacy policy applies to the following Android application and its developer, as listed on Google Play:

Snap to Calendar ("the app") reads a screenshot, photo or piece of text that you share with it, works out the event it describes, and shows you a card you confirm before it is saved to your calendar or kept as a to-do. This page explains what data the app handles and who it is shared with. The app is provided by yzyy, an individual developer based in Singapore ("we", "us").

Summary

• Your screenshots and photos are never uploaded. The words in an image are always read on your phone, by software running on your phone. The image itself does not leave the device — in any mode, ever.
• The app has two extraction modes. Basic keeps everything on the phone and works offline. Smart, if — and only if — you switch it on, sends the recognized text to our server and to Google's Gemini AI service to work out the event fields. The app asks you plainly before the first time, and you can turn Smart off again at any time. Until you agree, no text leaves your phone.
• Text sent for Smart extraction is processed, not stored: neither we nor our server keep the text or the extracted event after the answer is returned to your phone.
• The app has no account and no sign-in. We do not know who you are.
• The events and to-dos you save, and your history, are stored on your phone. We never receive them.
• The app does not read your calendar. When you tap "Add to calendar" it hands the event to the calendar app you already use, and that app decides what to do with it.
• There are no ads, and the app does not collect an advertising ID.
• The app sends crash reports and a small, fixed set of usage counts so it can be fixed and improved. These carry no screenshot, no photo, no text you shared, and no event details.

What you share with the app

You give the app a screenshot or photo (through Android's photo picker or the share sheet), or plain text (through the share sheet). Reading the words out of an image always happens on your device, using Google's ML Kit text recognition. English recognition is bundled inside the app; Chinese recognition is an optional module you can switch on, which Google Play services downloads to the phone once and then runs offline like the rest. The image is not sent anywhere, in either case.

What happens to the recognized words depends on the mode you chose:

• Basic mode (the default). The app finds explicit dates, times and places with its own built-in detection, entirely on the device. Nothing leaves the phone. Basic is free, unlimited, and works with no connection at all.
• Smart mode (only with your consent). The recognized text — only the text, never the image — is sent over an encrypted connection to our server, which passes it to Google's Gemini AI service (the Gemini API) to turn it into event fields: a title, a date, a time, a place. The result comes back to your phone and fills in the card. The text and the extracted event are processed and returned, not stored: our server keeps no copy of either after the request completes, and our server's logs do not contain them. Google processes the text as our service provider to produce the answer. Smart mode requires an internet connection; when it is off, or the request fails, the app falls back to Basic on the phone.

Smart mode is off until you turn it on. The app shows you a plain description of the above and asks for your choice before any text is sent, and you can revoke the choice at any time from the app's About screen. If you restore the app onto a new phone from a backup, it asks again.

The app has no storage permission and cannot browse your files. It only ever sees the single image you pick in the system photo picker, or the item you send to it from another app. The image and the text are held only while the card is being prepared, and are discarded when you save or discard the card. The app never keeps a copy of the screenshot.

What our server stores

To count the free trial and verify Pro without an account, our server (run on Google Cloud, in Singapore) stores a small amount of non-content data:

• A random installation identifier the app generates on first run. It identifies the installation, not you, and is not derived from your device or any account.
• Usage counters tied to that identifier — how many Smart extractions the installation has used (for the free trial) and a per-day count (for a fair-use limit on Pro). Numbers only.
• Subscription verification records. When you buy Pro, the app sends the Google Play purchase token to our server so it can confirm the purchase with Google Play. The server stores only a keyed cryptographic hash of that token — never the token itself — together with the subscription's validity period, and receives standard subscription status notifications from Google Play (renewed, cancelled, refunded) so Pro stays correct.

None of this contains anything you shared with the app. The text sent for Smart extraction is not stored, as described above.

What is stored on your phone

Everything the app remembers about your captures stays on the device:

• Your history — the title, date, time and place of each event or to-do you saved, and whether a to-do is done.
• Your settings and choices — the Smart/Basic choice, the OCR language choice, and the trial count shown in the app.
• Your Pro status — whether this installation currently has Pro.

Your history is never sent to us. Uninstalling the app deletes everything above. You can delete any individual history entry from inside the app at any time.

The app deliberately keeps your history, your consent choice, your trial count and your Pro record out of Android's backups and device-to-device transfers: a new or restored phone starts with an empty history, asks for the Smart consent again, and restores Pro from your Google Play account rather than from a backup.

Your calendar

The app does not ask for calendar permission and cannot read, change or see your calendar. When you tap "Add to calendar", Android opens your own calendar app with the fields already filled in, and you save it there. If you tap "Save as to-do" instead, nothing goes to a calendar at all — the item is kept inside this app, on this phone.

Reminders and notifications

If you save something as a to-do, the app can post a reminder notification. Android asks for your permission at that moment, and not before. Reminders are scheduled and delivered entirely on the device.

Crash reports and usage counts

The app sends:

• Crash reports — the technical details of a failure, such as the stack trace and the state of the device at the time.
• Usage counts — a fixed, closed set of events: that a capture started and from which entry point, that extraction finished and whether anything was found, which extraction mode ran and why a fallback happened, the Smart/Basic consent choice as a yes/no, that something was saved to a calendar or as a to-do, that the trial ran out, and that the subscription screen was shown or a purchase started. Every value is a number, a yes/no, or a label from a fixed list. The app provides no way for the text you shared, an image, an event title, a date or a place to be recorded in these.

This information is tied to a random installation identifier generated by Google's software. We do not ask for or store anything that identifies you personally, but because that identifier is consistent for your installation, this reporting is pseudonymous rather than anonymous. We describe it plainly rather than calling it anonymous.

This version of the app does not offer a switch to turn this off. Uninstalling the app stops all collection.

Advertising

The app contains no advertising and no advertising SDK. It does not collect an advertising ID: the permissions that would let it read one are removed from the app, and the analytics library is configured not to attach one to anything it sends.

Payments

The app is free to install. Basic mode is free and unlimited, and there is a one-time free trial of Smart extractions. The optional Pro subscription (monthly or yearly) unlocks unlimited Smart extraction and export; the exact price for your country is shown in the app before you pay. It is sold through Google Play: Google processes the payment; we never receive or store your payment details, your card, your name or your billing address. What our server learns from Google Play is whether the subscription is valid and until when, as described under "What our server stores". You can cancel any time in Google Play, and Pro lasts until the end of the period you paid for. Reinstalling restores Pro from the same Google account. If you bought the app's earlier one-time unlock during testing, it is honoured as lifetime Pro.

Third-party services

The app and our server use the following, which handle data under their own policies:

• ML Kit text recognition — reads the words in an image, on the device. English is bundled in the app; the optional Chinese module is downloaded once by Google Play services and then also runs on the device. Images are never uploaded.
• Google Gemini API — in Smart mode only, and only with your consent, Google processes the recognized text as our service provider to extract the event fields. Processed, not stored by us; handled by Google under its API terms.
• Google Cloud — runs our server (in Singapore) and stores the counters and verification records described above.
• Google Play Billing — the Pro subscription.
• Firebase Crashlytics — crash reports (stack traces, device state at the time of a crash).
• Google Analytics for Firebase — the usage counts described above, plus standard device information such as device model and operating system version. Like any internet service, it also sees the IP address your device connects from, and Google derives an approximate location (typically city or region level) from it. The app has no location permission and cannot read your actual location.

All of the Google services above are operated by Google. See Google's Privacy Policy for how Google handles this data.

Network use

Basic mode works with no connection at all. The app uses the network for Smart extraction (only with your consent), for the one-time download of the optional Chinese recognition module, for verifying the Pro subscription, and for the crash reports and usage counts described above.

Data retention and deletion

We hold no copy of your screenshots, your text or your events. Text sent for Smart extraction is processed and discarded, not retained. What our server does retain — the installation identifier, its usage counters and the hashed subscription records — is kept only while it is needed to run the trial and Pro; if you want it deleted, email us the request from inside the app's report link and we will remove the records for your installation identifier. Everything stored on the phone is removed when you delete an entry or uninstall the app.

Data collected by the Google services above is retained under Google's retention policies: usage data for a limited period, and crash reports only as long as they are useful for fixing problems. Uninstalling the app stops all collection.

Accuracy

The event details the app suggests are produced by software reading an image — and, in Smart mode, by an AI model reading the text — and they can be wrong. That is why the app always shows you an editable card and saves nothing until you confirm it. Every result screen has a report link that opens your own email app with a message already written; it contains no screenshot and nothing quoted from what you shared, and it is not sent until you send it.

Children

The app is a general productivity tool. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes

If our data practices change, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date above before the change takes effect.
